Laura Straus is a Partner with the firm’s Business Practice Group.
Laura has a career spanning private practice at large and midsize national law firms, as well as in-house, with particular experience representing clients in commercial loan transactions.
Before devoting herself fully to law, Laura pulled double duty as both an attorney and a nurse, making her exceptionally skilled at calming panicked clients and juggling 47 things at once with a smile—skills she now uses to shepherd complex transactions to closing.
She has worked with clients in a variety of industries, including renewable energy, health care, manufacturing, private equity and impact investing. Recent transactions include:
- Negotiating and structuring an $80MM back leverage credit facility on behalf of international agricultural finance investment fund
- Borrower’s counsel in drafting and negotiating $15MM senior secured multiple draw term loan to function as corporate debt to the parent entity of a solar energy developer with greater than 40 subsidiaries
- Lender’s counsel in $20MM financing transaction to fund capital call obligations of limited partnership owner
- Borrower’s counsel in $70MM accordion facility to subsidiaries of a REIT to be used for property acquisitions
Known for her curiosity and communication skills, Laura believes that most problems—legal or otherwise—can be solved with a little clarity and a lot of coffee.
When not at work, Laura enjoys reminding her children to hydrate, playing Sudoku and hiking in Wisconsin’s many incredible state parks.
