Matthew B. Hilowitz

Matthew B. Hilowitz is an associate in the firm’s Business and Tax Practice Groups. Matthew has experience with transactional tax planning, including tax due diligence, structuring, and modeling advice, provided in connection with domestic and cross-border mergers, acquisitions, bankruptcies, and business restructurings. Matthew views transactions and business operations holistically while keeping in mind potential tax complications that may arise.

Originally from Downstate New York, Matthew received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the State University of New York at Geneseo and both his J.D., with a Transactional Practice Concentration, and his LL.M., in Taxation, from the Boston University School of Law. During law school, Matthew served as Vice President of the Entrepreneurship and Finance Club and was a member of the Review of Banking & Financial Law. Matthew is an active member of the Boston University alumni community and is working to help set up a Young Alumni Council chapter in the Chicago area. He is admitted to both the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Bar and the Illinois State Bar.

Matthew began his career in Boston in the Mergers and Acquisitions Tax and State and Local Tax groups of a Big Four accounting firm where he navigated the tax implications of many challenges that companies face at varying stages of their life cycles. Matthew represented multinational corporate clients and private equity funds with many of the federal, international, and state tax issues involved with formations, sales of equity interests, dispositions, and supply chain restructurings.

Outside of work, Matthew enjoys exploring Chicago with his wife, new baby girl, Rhodesian Ridgeback, and French Bulldog. He also enjoys playing tennis, hiking, and expanding his home gym.
